We Present the “Manifesto for Expanding Democracy”

Ampliando Democracia is an initiative around which a group of civil society organisations and experts have gathered since mid-2023 to promote reflection and offer recommendations on how to improve governance, public policies, and democratic quality through deeper, more inclusive, and more robust citizen participation in decision-making processes and in the design, implementation, and evaluation of public services and policies.

We aim to ensure that new and innovative forms of participation, already a reality at the international level and in our own regions and local entities, also become established at the national level in Spain. Additionally, we seek to raise demands for greater functionality, inclusivity, transparency, and accountability in existing participation mechanisms and tools.In this context, we have drafted the Manifesto for Expanding Democracy, which outlines the key ideas that have emerged from this process. It proposes seven priority lines of action to public administrations and political parties, based on the main consensus and best international experiences.
